Macronutrients
Inorganic chemical compounds that algae ingest in large quantities and require in order to produce biomass.
In the marine sciences, macronutrients generally refer to those inorganic chemical compounds that algae ingest in large quantities and require in order to produce biomass. They include soluble nitrate (NO3-), nitrite (NO2-), ammonium (NH4+), phosphate (PO43-) and silicic acid (Si(OH)4).
