Freezing degree days (FDDs)

A standard for the intensity of below-zero temperatures in a given timeframe, frequently used in the USA.

Describes a simplified relation between thermodynamics and growth processes. In this regard, the melting process is not included. To calculate the freezing degree days, the number of days with below-zero temperatures is multiplied by the negative degrees. Days with above-zero temperatures are not included.
