Tree rings
Tree rings or growth rings reflect different developmental phases in a vegetation period.
When a cross-section is taken of a tree’s trunk, visible concentric rings of secondary wood. The difference between the dense, small-celled wood in one season and the large-celled early wood in the following spring makes it possible to determine every tree’s age. The rings’ width and thickness are in turn connected to climate parameters like temperature and precipitation.
