Ice-albedo feedback

A climate feedback concerning changes in the Earth’s albedo.

A climate feedback concerning changes in the Earth’s albedo. Normally involves changes in the cryosphere, which has a much higher albedo (~0.8) than the mean planetary albedo (~0.3). As the climate warms, it is expected that the cryosphere will dwindle, the Earth’s overall albedo will decline, and more solar energy will be absorbed, warming the planet further.

Ice and snow albedo feedback processes under current conditions (above) and under unchecked warming (below).
