Ice floe
Any comparatively flat piece of sea ice that is at least 20 m wide.
Any comparatively flat piece of sea ice that is at least 20 m wide. Floes are categorised on the basis of their width:
- giant floes – width of more than 10 km
- very large floes – width of 2 – 10 km
- large floes – width of 500 – 2,000 m
- medium floes – width of 100 – 500 m
- small floes – width of 20 – 100 m.
