First-year ice
Sea ice that has grown for one winter at most, having developed from young ice.
Sea ice that has grown for one winter at most, having developed from young ice. It has a thickness of between 30 cm and 3 m and can be divided into thin first-year ice or white ice (30-70 cm), medium first-year ice (70-120 cm), and thick first-year ice (>120 cm).
