Deep water

Water masses at depths below ca. 1,000 m, which are formed by convection and overflow and spread from the convection areas to the interior ocean.

Water masses at depths below ca. 1,000 m, which are formed by convection and overflow and spread from the convection areas to the interior ocean. This deep water flows to the Southern Ocean, where some of it joins the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, while some rises to the surface.
