Initiatives and measures intended to reduce the vulnerability of natural and human systems to actual or expected impacts of climate change. There are various types of adaptation, including proactive and reactive, private and public, autonomous and planned adaptation. Examples include extending the heights of river and coastal dykes and using plant species that can better cope with temperature-related shocks.
