Sea-ice maps for a selected period

In this part of, you can view maps of the sea-ice concentration in the Arctic and Antarctic and select the timeframe you’re most interested in. You can also download the graphics you’ve selected and, with proper citation, use them elsewhere. All graphics are based on quality-controlled data.

Using the selection menu, you can filter the archived maps, dating back to 2002, according to your individual needs. The navigation allows you to choose between daily maps and monthly-mean maps. The sea-ice data provided – the latest currently available – is constantly updated and expanded. All changes and updates are marked accordingly.

For the monthly maps and comparison maps, you’ll find the highest-resolution versions in the ZIP file (2952 px x 2952 px). The daily maps are available at a lower resolution (720 px x 720 px). If you also need daily maps in a higher resolution, feel free to get in touch using our contact form. Please bear in mind that, for larger requests, it can take longer for us to prepare the ZIP file.
