Southern Oscillation
The Southern Oscillation is a periodic variation (every three to five years) in air surface pressure between the tropical western Pacific and southeast Pacific, which produces effects on wind systems and ocean surface currents.
A periodic variation (every three to five years) in air surface pressure between the tropical western Pacific and southeast Pacific in the subtropical and temperate latitudes with corresponding effects on wind systems (esp. the southeast trade wind) and ocean surface currents (esp. the Humboldt Current and Equatorial Current); directly coupled with the Walker circulation.
