SCAR

The Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research is a non-governmental organisation and was founded in 1958.

The Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an organisation of the International Science Council (ISC) and was founded in 1958. The SCAR is tasked with initiating, developing and coordinating high-quality international scientific research in the Antarctic (including the Southern Ocean) and on the Antarctic’s role in the Earth system. The SCAR provides meetings of the Antarctic Treaty System and other organisations like the UNFCCC and the IPCC with objective and unbiased advice on scientific and conservation-related questions concerning the commercial use of the Antarctic and the Southern Ocean, as well as the Antarctic’s role in the Earth system.
