Benthos
The community of organisms living on and in the bottom of a body of water (benthic zone).
The community of plant and animal organisms living on and in the bottom of a body of water (benthic zone). The benthos includes both sedentary (sessile) organisms and crawling, walking or swimming (vagile) bottom-dwelling fauna. These biotic communities represent an essential food source for many fish and bird species.
